My experiences have allowed me to gain clinical knowledge and serve as a mentor for others.
Physical TherapyI began working as a physical therapy technician following graduation. I work alongside seven physical therapists and two physical therapy assistants to assist patients in understanding and properly performing various stretches and exercises. I have worked with those who have recently had surgeries, experience pain, and even those who suffer from Parkinson's disease. Despite the fast-paced environment, I am still able to provide the one-on-one care that patients expect and deserve.

Global Brigades For the past three years, I served as a medical volunteer in Latin America. The Global Brigades Medical/Dental chapter at LSU uses a holistic and sustainable model to provide medical and dental assistance to rural communities in Nicaragua, Panama, Honduras, and Ghana. In my last year, I also served as the Vice President of the organization.
While on these medical brigades, I was able to shadow a number of physicians, triage patients, assist in dental procedures, distribute medicine in our pharmacy, and give standard eye exams. Besides the clinical training and knowledge I gathered, I was also able to learn about the socioeconomic realities of these rural areas during the public health portion of the brigades. My experiences helped to solidify my desire to pursue an masters in public health. |

Academic Center for Student AthletesI work as a biology and sociology tutor for student athletes at the Cox Communications Academic Center for Student-Athletes. I am certified by the College Reading and Learning Association. I meet with students at least once a week during the school year and at least twice a week during finals. I expand on concepts presented in class and encourage self advocacy.
When the tutorial center started their tutor of the month program in October 2016, I was the first to receive the recognition for my use of "multimodal learning." I often incorporate various strategies such as hands-on approaches, images/graphs, flashcards, relevant research, and SmartBoard games throughout my one-hour sessions. |

Psychology ResearchI have worked under Dr. Matthew Calamia and graduate students in the Psychology department to conduct research for two separate projects.
Relationships Among Different Neuropsychological Tests of Attention: I gave several psychological tests to students taking psychology courses at LSU. This was conducted in two trials (one week apart) to test the effects of repeated measures. Cognitive and Behavioral Effects of Concussions: I worked at Our Lady of the Lake's Emergency Department to give various psychological tests to patients with concussions (tested variable) and other orthopedic injuries (control). Results from this study will be used to improve patient care. |
